FLACSO Master's Degree in Urban Studies students visit the Glass Hub to learn about inclusive recycling and the circular economy
A group of students from the Master's Degree in Urban Studies, in the subject Urban Sustainability and Climate Change, paid a visit on Thursday, February 6, 2025, to the Glass Hub, where the ReciVeci team and the Hub were able to share with them the operation of this initiative that is reactivating the glass recycling chain in the center-north of the country.
During the tour, the students learned more about the Hub's operations, the process of collecting and collecting glass, and its subsequent shipment to Guayaquil, where the material is reincorporated into the recycling chains to manufacture new glass containers. Blanca Pulupa, operator of the Glass Hub, guided part of the visit and demonstrated glass classification processing, explaining the importance of this initiative to reduce pollution and promote the circular economy.
The visit also allowed students to learn how ReciVeci has been a benchmark for inclusive recycling in the city and the country. Along the way, conversations and inquiries were generated about urban policies and how ReciVeci has been a pioneer in the development of the circular economy and inclusive recycling. Above all, the role played by the company in the transformation of the collective imaginary with respect to basic waste pickers, and finally in the creation of a citizen culture of inclusive recycling, was rescued.
At ReciVeci, we would like to thank Andrea Carrión, professor of the master's degree, for proposing this visit. We love collaborating with the academy and strengthening the connection between theoretical knowledge and recycling practices in the territory. We invite more academic initiatives to join our projects and to be part of the change towards a more sustainable and efficient waste management model in the country.
