ReciVeci and Laboratori Bagó partners to promote inclusive recycling

10/2024

In line with its carbon footprint reduction plan, Laboratori Bagó promotes recycling in partnership with ReciVeci. The campaign seeks to raise awareness among the company's employees about the problem of pollution caused by poor waste management, as well as to dignify the work of basic recyclers, through the division of solid waste, such as plastic, cardboard and paper, from the source.

The first phase of this project, which is being carried out in the main building of Bagó in Quito, began with the installation of garbage cans and signs to facilitate the recycling process. In addition, the cleaning and collection staff received a special induction so that they are aligned with the objectives of the campaign and are proactively involved in it. For the second phase, ReciVeci will lead 4 training days for 96 workers in the company's administrative and commercial areas, which will address essential issues such as the problem of solid waste in Ecuador, the importance of inclusive recycling, materials that can be separated and recycled, waste management in the home, and the Organic Law of Inclusive Circular Economy.

According to Gabriela Velastegui, Head of Communications and CSR at Laboratori Bagó, “Since verifying the measurement of our carbon footprint in 2019 and 2020, we have been working on creating and implementing a plan that will allow us to reduce our impact. This joint initiative with ReciVeci is one more step that we are taking, and it joins others such as our program “Together We Care For Our World”, in order to further involve and engage our employees.” He adds that one of its main objectives is to be coherent with the environment and society, and to generate a true habit of recycling, not only in workspaces, but also in the homes of those involved.

For her part, Lorena Gallardo, Co-founder and Technology and Innovation Manager of ReciVeci, states that “These types of campaigns allow basic waste pickers to improve their income by 300%, in addition to solidifying their work and taking care of their health. The division of waste from the source prevents them from being unnecessarily exposed to contaminated landfills, putting their hands or bodies in these infectious sources. Our role will be to provide constant support and timely monitoring to the institution, with the delivery of periodic management reports that help to optimize the work carried out.”

It is important to note that, as a complement to this initiative, a communication campaign is still active on the company's social network “Workplace”, in which general information is shared about it, in addition to the benefits of recycling, and tips for doing it correctly.
