The Glass Hub by ReciVeci, O-I Cridesa, was inaugurated!

10/2024

On November 16, the inauguration of the Glass Hub by ReciVeci, O-I Cridesa, took place, this project that came to reactivate the recovery of glass in the center-north of the country and that it's more than just a glass collection center!

The role of the Glass Hub is primarily that of shorten the logistics gap involved in recovering, storing and transporting glass bottles and containers to the facilities of the company O-I Cridesa, located in Guayaquil, both for basic recyclers and intermediaries. In recent times, the lack of sustainable connections in this recycling chain has resulted in massive quantities of this valuable material being wasted, despite the fact that glass is a material that is recycled 100% and infinitely.

Precisely looking for ways to solve this logistical challenge, the company Owens Illinois Andean, in Ecuador O-I Cridesa, chose ReciVeci to create the country's first Glass Hub in Ecuador. The Glass Hubs are collection centers created with the support of this company to propose effective changes in the glass recycling chain, and which have been replicated in several places in the region: 4 in Colombia, 1 in Peru, and this is the first in Ecuador.

The inauguration of this Glass Hub was very special. It was held at its headquarters, located in San Isidro del Inca in Quito, and we were accompanied by nearly 100 people from both the private and public sectors and from basic recycling.

From Left to Right: Co-Founders Paula Guerra, CEO, Claudia Andrade, Operations Manager and Lorena Gallardo, CTO at ReciVeci.

The event included interventions from the three Co-Founders: Claudia Andrade, Operations Manager at ReciVeci, Paula Guerra, CEO at ReciVeci and Lorena Gallardo, Manager of Technology and Innovation at ReciVeci. In addition, interventions by Mónica Franco, Sustainability Leader at O-I Cridesa (virtual intervention), Elvia Endara, Grassroots Recycler of the “For a Better Future” Association, Daniel Solís, Cultural Manager and owner of Palenque Casa, and Jorge Andrés Navarro, Undersecretary of Environmental Quality of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition.

During the event, the promotional video of ReciVeci for companies was shared with the attendees, together with the promotional video of the Glass Hub, with the objective of communicating with our community the advances that we have been creating together with alliances from ReciVeci.

In addition, routes to the Glass Hub were carried out guided by the Hub's Acquisition Promoter, Edicson Gamba, and training on what glass is recycled in the Hub by Verónica and Blanca Pulupa, both Glass Hub Operators and Basic Recyclers.

A toast was also held to celebrate the opening of the space, and finally a presentation was made to the attendees of the mural that gives life and color to the façade of the Glass Hub, made by the illustrator and muralist Monserrat Navas.

From ReciVeci we thank all the attendees, suppliers, and each person who attended the event, sharing with us and joining us on this special day.

We are still changing recycling in the country!
