During the month of June 2024, 21 new work aprons were delivered to three groups of basic recyclers: the Simbaña family group (6), the Guano family (8) and the Caguana family (7), thanks to the joint work between The Coca-Cola Company Ecuador and ReciVeci.
Context:
In 2022, Ecuador experienced a very special event: the FIFA Trophy Tour world cup, an event led by the Coca-Cola Company. For the edition held in Quito, ReciVeci participated with the management of recyclable waste. In addition to this event, one of the pillars of the Trophy Tour was to leave a legacy that means a social and environmental impact in each of the cities visited, and in this sense, through working together with ReciVeci, it was determined that the legacy for Ecuador is destined for basic waste pickers in the city of Quito, framed in Coca-Cola's “A World Without Waste” strategy.
This is how ReciVeci helped to identify what were the most urgent needs of several grassroots groups and associations of waste pickers to carry out their work. Some groups such as the one in the “Eugenio Espejo” Association, needed work tools such as digital scales, so they benefited from a digital scale in May of this year. Another Association that benefited was “For a better future”, who had expressed the need to have a roof in their collection center. For this reason, in March of this year, a roof was installed in the area where the recyclers of this association carry out the classification of recyclable materials.
Finally, another legacy of the Trophy Tour was the delivery of 21 aprons to basic waste pickers belonging to three groups, who expressed their satisfaction as this would allow them to be recognized on the streets for their work and for citizens to respect them more.
From ReciVeci, we would like to give special thanks to Paola Palacios Gutierrez of the Communications and Sustainability area for Ecuador and Peru in The Coca-Cola Company, for choosing recycling with basic recyclers and recyclers as an action aligned with the Company's sustainability plans.
We are continuing to build an inclusive recycling culture with grassroots recyclers!
