Project overview
The McDonald's Recycling at Playas General Villamil and Salinas took place simultaneously on February 10 and 11, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This initiative consisted of two days where grassroots recyclers, local promoters, McDonald's staff and the ReciVeci team worked to recover recyclable material on the beaches of General Villamil and Salinas. In addition to the collection of material, the event included an environmental awareness and education campaign on inclusive recycling and waste management aimed at citizens.
During the event, a material reception point was established at the McDonald's premises, where people were able to participate in roulette and deposit their recyclable materials. In addition, beach tours were carried out for the recovery of material and the socialization of the project, thus allowing greater participation and awareness of the importance of recycling and proper waste management.
From these two recyclers, a total of 962.1 kilograms of recyclable material were recovered for the groups of recyclers who worked on the event. These materials include 7936 PET bottles, 14,098 aluminum cans, 1521 glass bottles and 39 cartons. The recycling of these materials avoids the emission of 2,097.42 kilograms of CO2 equivalent, as well as the extraction of virgin raw materials. These materials generally end up in garbage, beaches and/or oceans, but with these types of events, they are diverted to recycling processes, and it also helps to support and recognize the work of local grassroots recyclers.
