Project overview

The drafting of the PNRRP began in March 2024 and is being developed by Fundación ReciVeci in collaboration with Fundación Mingas por el Mar and the Manzano Law Firm. In the first phase of the plan, the Consultative Group was formed, which brings together more than 30 actors from various sectors related to plastic waste, including: the central government, GADs, civil society, mass consumer companies, industries, NGOs and academia. This group will actively participate throughout the process of drafting the PNRRP.

Finally, with the Consultative Group established, the operating structure, the statutes and the internal governance system were defined. Subsequently, a multi-actor consultation was carried out to identify information gaps in the plastics sector and determine how each actor can contribute to building the national inventory of sources of plastic pollution. Once this information was collected, the first workshop for the construction of the plan was provided, both in Quito and in Guayaquil. This workshop brought together more than 50 key actors who collaborated in the formulation of the vision and strategic axes of the PNRRP.

At the same time, an analysis of current national regulations is being carried out to evaluate how the PNRRP complements the public policies developed in recent years. In addition, two more workshops will be held: one for the preparation of the plan and the other for its validation. In addition, a communication strategy will be developed in order to educate and raise awareness among the different sectors in the progressive reduction of plastic waste.

The PNRRP will be delivered at the end of March and will serve as a guide for coordination between sectors for the reduction of plastic waste in a transversal way. Without a doubt, a valuable instrument for the country.
