Strengthening Inclusive Recycling through Social and Technological Innovation

This project aims to strengthen inclusive recycling in three cities in Ecuador: Quito, Guayaquil, and Cuenca, through various strategies. First, the gamification system of ReciApp is being enhanced by incorporating new “Recinegocios” in all three cities, which offer rewards and discounts on the mobile application for citizens to redeem with their points. The goal is to increase the number of active users on ReciApp and ensure more people recognize their local recyclers to safely and freely hand over recyclable materials. Additionally, the Cumbayá Recicla project is being implemented to recover recyclable waste at generating points in Cumbayá, Quito, benefiting 11 local recyclers. In Guayaquil, a project is underway to recover recyclable waste in a neighborhood, involving the identification of local recyclers, agreements with generating points, the implementation of a recycling station, and community activation for recycling efforts. All actions are supported by an inclusive recycling communication campaign that emphasizes the work of local recyclers and the importance of proper waste management. Furthermore, this project has led to a redesign and improvement of the ReciApp interface, enhancing the user experience for the ReciVeci community.
