ReciVeci celebrates 25 years of the Machángara River Basin Conservation Committee in Cuenca

10/2024

ReciVeci was invited to the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Machángara River Basin Conservation Committee, where we took the opportunity to recognize the Committee for its track record and valuable management in the defense of water in the river basin.

Among the eleven institutions that make up the committee are the Ministry of the Environment, Secretariat of Water, ELECAUSTRO, University of Cuenca, ETAPA-EP, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Provincial Government of Azuay, the General Meeting of Users of the Machángara Irrigation System, GAD Parish of Chiquintad and GAD Parish of Checa.

The Machángara basin is vital for the city of Cuenca, since it provides a variety of services such as the supply of drinking water, the generation of hydroelectric energy and irrigation for agricultural production. With an area of 32,500 ha, of which approximately 25,000 ha correspond to the Tomebamba — Machángara Forest and Protective Vegetation, this ecosystem is strategic for the city of Cuenca, in addition to covering more than 60% of the water needed for the city and generating 39.5 MW of energy.

At ReciVeci, we value alliances with the Committee to strengthen systems for the collection and return of recyclable material, and we recognize the valuable work of the Committee in its mission to protect and conserve water sources. Congratulations on 25 years of commitment to the conservation of Machángara's water resources!
